How to Enable an AI Agent on Your Textedly Phone Number

Step-by-step guide to creating your first AI Agent and assigning it to a number.

AI Agents are available on every Textedly account. Turning one on for a phone number only takes a few steps.

Step 1: Open the AI Agents Page

  1. Log in to Textedly.

  2. In the left-hand navigation, click AI Agents.

  3. You’ll see a list of your existing Agents (or an empty state if you’re creating your first one).

Step 2: Create a New AI Agent

  1. Click New AI Agent.

  2. Choose the Primary Phone Number this Agent will answer.

    • All eligible Textedly phone numbers will appear in the dropdown.

  3. Select the Agent name and gender.

  4. Select the Voice.

    • Pick the voice that best matches your brand. You can update this later if needed.

Click Save & Continue to move to configuration.

Step 3: Assign Knowledge Sources

The Agent works best when it has access to your actual business information.

From the AI Agent’s Knowledge or Documents tab:

  1. Click Add Document or Upload File.

  2. Upload PDF files about your business.

    • FAQs

    • Policies and procedures

    • Store hours, locations, and services

  3. Optionally, add FAQ-style Q&A snippets, such as:

    • Question: “What are your business hours?”

    • Answer: “We’re open Monday through Friday from 9am to 5pm Pacific Time.”

You can add more PDF documents at any time. The Agent will start using them on future calls.

Step 4: Review your AI Agent

When you’re ready to go live:

  • Think again about how you want the AI Agent to represent your business to ensure you have everything you want.

From this point, incoming calls to that number will be answered by the AI Agent according to your settings.

Step 5: Place a Test Call

Before you share the number publicly, always test it yourself:

  1. Call your Textedly number from your phone.

  2. Listen to the greeting and confirm it matches your expectations.

  3. Ask a few typical customer questions.

  4. Make sure the Agent:

    • Introduces your business correctly

    • Uses accurate information

    • Transfers or wraps up calls in a way that feels natural

If anything feels off, you can update the greeting, instructions, or documents and test again.

Turning an AI Agent Off

If you want to delete the Agent:

  1. Go back to the AI Agents page.

  2. Open the Agent you want to delete.

  3. Toggle the Status to Delete.

Be very careful with this option. This action is permanent and cannot be undone. Deleting an AI Agent will permanently remove all associated data, all the training and effort you put into your Agent, and all the prompts and configurations. Once deleted, nothing can be recovered.
